KG GunKote® was originally developed for use on military weapons that would be used in marine Environments. Military teams such as the US Navy SEALs needed a weapon coating that could withstand hours of abuse in a high salinity marine environment yet still resist corrosion and not impede the weapon’s function. KG GunKote® fit the bill perfectly and been used and tested on weapons that had to endure a 500-hour salt spray test yet still met strict machine gun firing requirements set by the military. GunKote® has become so successful in corrosive environments that it has spread into automotive and industrial fields; being used on items such as radiators, barrels, engine blocks, and oil coolers.

GunKote® is not a paint or Powder-coating; instead it is a specialized hard molecular film that is bonded to the surface of whatever it is applied to. Unlike traditional Parkerization or bluing, GunKote is more chemical and abrasion resistant while requiring less care to prevent rusting. While being extremely durable GunKote also has self lubricating properties that come from PTFE (molybdenum) additives that prevent metal on metal contact even after standard weapons oils have failed or evaporated. Both the 2400 and 1600 Series formulations come with high concentrations of PTFE that allow our product to increase the service life and reliability of your weapon even in the harshest of environments.
